New Radicalisms

New Radicalisms is a four-day festival by the (A)WAKE collective exploring shared identities, digital realities and cultures of the in-between. Its second edition, held in Rotterdam from 30 June to 3 July 2022, brought together diasporic voices connected to the WANA region (West Asia and North Africa) around one question: "But… where are you really from?" Through talks, lectures, workshops and performances, artists, designers, thinkers, musicians and activists proposed new answers and new definitions of belonging.

The visual identity starts from a European residence permit, a document that can open the door to money and freedom as much as it can act as a restricting monster. We took this stiff, flat object into the computer, where it could be freely appropriated, digitised and manipulated, capturing the love-hate relationship with it. The campaign appeared across the festival's communication, including the WOW billboard in front of Rotterdam Central Station, social media posts, posters, merch and more.
