Slime Mould Workshop

Slime Mould Workshop: How can a non-human organism become part of the creative process?
About the Slime Mould workshop
This hands-on workshop introduces participants to the world of Physarum polycephalum, also known as slime mould, and its use in experimental design, bioart and visual research. Working directly with a living organism, participants explore how it grows, navigates space and forms networks, and how design can become a collaboration between human and non-human.
This workshop consists of three parts:
- 01
Introduction to slime molds
A short presentation about slime molds, their behaviors and biological traits, and how they’re used within contemporary art, science, and experimental research.
- 02
Artistic practice and experiments
A presentation of ongoing experiments, visual works, and typography grown with slime molds, including time-lapse recordings and research processes.
- 03
Growing your own slime mold
Participants will learn the basics of cultivating slime molds using Petri dishes, agar, and food sources such as oats. Everyone creates their own small experiment and takes it home in a Petri dish, along with the tools and knowledge to care for it and keep observing it.
This workshop invites participants to slow down, observe, and rethink creativity as a form of coexistence with other living systems.
