Exhibition identity · Wall graphics · Exhibition graphic design
Exhibition graphics for a group show of twenty young Eastern European artists, with wall texts shaped like deteriorating social media speech bubbles.
Design is usually built on structure and form, yet delab challenges the field by asking what happens without either.
From visual identities and books to bio-design, talks and workshops, the studio’s work is shaped by the care, curiosity and attention learned from working with slime mould.
delab is the studio of designer, artist and researcher Ringailė Demšytė, working in the cultural field on commissioned and self-initiated projects.
Experiences
In 1.5 hours, participants grow their own slime mould and discover how a living organism can become a design collaborator, learning what can only be done by hand. Everyone takes home their own culture in a Petri dish. In a world of AI-generated images, we believe care and craft are what will set work apart.
No previous experience needed.
Also available as a talk.
Knowledge Held in the Network
Slime moulds can merge together, and by rearranging the organism, I created an environment for it to navigate, revealing how it moves and behaves.
Meaning Emerges at the Edge
Slime mould is known to avoid coffee grounds. I used this to shape an environment for it to navigate, revealing how it responds and finds its way.
Never Fixed, Always Becoming
I discovered that slime mould thrives on yeast, and built an environment around this to observe how it grows and adapts.
